Markey Robinson

Markey Robinson 1918 - 1999

Markey Robinson - Markey, as he preferred to be known; was born in Belfast and educated at Perth St P.E. school where he first became interested in art, an interest encouraged by his father, himself a housepainter and signwriter.Markey was a prolific artist who produced his works on any available surface including packing cases, shoe boxes, sale posters, wallpaper, hardboard, plywood, canvas ,glass bottles, old prints, oilcloth fabric samples, book covers, infact anything he didn't have to pay for!

Markey lived for traveling - he found it almost impossible to stay at home for more than six or eight weeks at a time. The subject matter of Markey's paintings includes landscapes of Ireland, France, Spain and North Aftica, Nudes, Ballet, Still Life, Clowns, Beach Scenes, Harbour and Boating, Travellers , Historical subjects, Religious, almost anything.

I am often asked to authenticate works by Markey and am pleased to do so at a charge of £50 per painting - however, should I believe the work to be a forgery, it will be handed over to the police for investigation.  The Gallery is always interested in purchasing quality paintings or unusual works by Markey.

WE would strongly recommend Dr, Michael Mulreany's book: - MARKEY ROBINSON - MAVERICK SPIRIT available from the gallery @ £40 p&p.
