Joe Hynes

Among the most skilled and versatile of contempory watercolourists, Joe Hynes needs no introduction thanks to the high acclaim he has received by collectors world wide.

Born in county Armagh and educated in Armagh City, from an early age he showed a pricocious talent for sketching and painting.  For many years he painted the flora and fauna of his native land as few have done, but it is his loose and impressionistic watercolours that have earned him widespread recognition.

His quick fluent style with sable brushes on rough watercolour paper aims to capture reality while leaving something to the viewers imagination.

A mainly self taught artist he has been greatly inspired by the work of English artists, Edward Wesson and John Yardley and his current style owes much to these contempory exponents of the watercolour medium.  In the early years of his learning he has happy memories of taking lessons from Maurice C. Wilks on the banks of the river Lagan.

An artist who is universally respected and admired with a string of galleries displaying his work, Joe still admits to the fact that he is still beavering away learning how to handle the tricks of the watercolour craft.  The reality is that it's elusiveness can be immensely frustrating.  A meduim where the highs can be incredibly high and the lows terribly low yet with a charm all its own.
