Gerard Dillon

Born off the Falls Road, Dillon was the youngest child of a family of eight.  Upon leaving school Dillon became a house-painter, when after seven years he attended Belfast College of Art for a mere three months.  The pre-war years saw him in London doing odd jobs to make a living.  He returned to Ireland during the war where he had his first one man show in the Country Shop in Dublin in 1942.  He spent much of his painting time in Connemara with George Campbell.  Dillon was to spend much of his time in London from 1945 until 1968, although his links with Belfast and Dublin always remained strong.

Other one man shows included CEMA in Belfast in 1946 and 1950 plus two shows at the Victor Waddington Galleries and Dawson Gallery between 1957 and 1971.  His work was exhibited in international shows in the 1950's and 60's.  His work is included in practically all of the principal Irish collections.
